Southern California’s most popular airport scales for the future with Boldyn Networks’ advanced private wireless network

September 24, 2026 | Ontario, CA

Private network will support security operations and future innovation

Boldyn Networks (Boldyn) has been selected to design, build, and operate a high-performance private wireless network at Southern California’s Ontario International Airport (ONT), recently ranked by JD Power as the second most popular medium-sized airport in North America1.

This significant investment in ONT’s digital infrastructure provides the airport with a dedicated, secure private wireless network that offers greater visibility and resiliency than public networks. By utilizing a segmented architecture, dedicated spectrum, and enterprise-level controls, the airport is establishing a foundation for mission-critical applications that will scale alongside its rapid passenger and cargo growth.

This strategic deployment comes as ONT has seen annual passenger volumes surpass 7 million, making it Southern California’s fastest-growing airport over the past 10 years.

"Investing in a private wireless network gives Ontario International Airport the operational autonomy necessary to manage and secure our more than 1,700-acre footprint with precision," said Chuck Miwa, Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer for the Ontario International Airport Authority. "Modernizing our communication infrastructure ensures that as our passenger volumes continue to climb, our ability to monitor, respond, and manage airfield security remains ahead of the curve, providing a seamless and secure environment for our passengers and tenants."

Initially supporting physical security and perimeter intrusion detection, and expanding to advanced camera coverage across the site, Boldyn's mobile private network combines 4G/5G access, on-premise edge compute and centralized private cloud management. Boldyn's 24/7 Network Operations Center (NOC) and Security Operations Center (SOC) ensure reliable performance for the airport's most critical security operations.

"We’re applying our experience from supporting passenger journeys at some of the world’s largest transit hubs to design a network that can handle the complex, highinterference environment of a major US cargo hub," said Jason Caliento, Chief Commercial Officer, US for Boldyn Networks. "By managing this network through our dedicated NOC and SOC, we are delivering a scalable platform that supports immediate security requirements while providing the bandwidth and low latency required for the airport’s long-term innovation roadmap."

While initial phases focus on enhancing physical security and real-time situational awareness, the private wireless network is designed to be "future-ready" without requiring foundational rework.

The partnership reflects a long-term commitment to aligning ONT’s digital evolution with its operational future, ensuring the airport remains a leader in both passenger experience and cargo efficiency.
