From quite early on I knew I wanted to work within a global group. I joined BAI Communications in 2019. At the time we were in Australia, Canada and Hong Kong. And I just found it so interesting, because there's a lot to learn across different countries. How do people do things differently? And not just operationally. The accounting standards are different. So are the tax requirements and treasury. Even culturally, for example Italy is on holiday all of August. There were so many amazing learning opportunities here.

I look after financial reporting on a day-to-day basis. So that’s compliance with accounting, recognising and reporting transactions properly, ensuring we’re compliant when it comes to auditors and with accounting standards. Financial controls are in place. Being in the group function, I oversee teams across the globe. They all report to us and their financial statements are part of ours. So I have to make sure they’re all correct.

Boldyn’s growth, merger and acquisition activities have been the highlight of my four years with the company. Establishing the UK business and growing that. Then doing the same in Italy. It’s been pretty significant for me. I get involved as the deal closes, because I need to ensure that it's accounted for properly. Then it has to be accurately reported in the financial statements on a timely basis. It’s quite demanding, but I wouldn’t say I’ve had a boring moment since I joined.

With every new acquisition, we’ve taken the time to build bonds with those teams, understand what they do and how we can work together. It’s all about collaboration and that’s something that’s always been encouraged here. It’s the tone they set at the top. The executives are very encouraging and they really recognise when people are doing their best. Empathy is so important in our world. Everyone should feel seen and appreciated – especially when going through change. It helps to build trust and that’s when teams start to work well together. People here are so friendly and supportive. They want to get to know each other and connect across different teams, different time zones. Everyone just loves their work and wants to do their best.

I think that it's a great time to be with the business, especially if you're trying to grow your career. Every time we move into a new jurisdiction, we start to see new challenges that we’ve never encountered before. So there’s a lot of learning to do. There’s room to grow and

move into different areas within finance and the wider business. I can see myself having the capacity to grow in say, treasury or tax in the future. There’s definitely an opportunity there if you’re looking for it.
