Boldyn Networks announces the launch of 5G at Bari and Brindisi airports in Italy
16 February 2026 | Rome, Italy
Boldyn Networks (Boldyn) announces the completion of the 5G infrastructure and the activation of 5G services at Bari airport, as well as the deployment of 5G-ready infrastructure at Brindisi airport, marking a major milestone in the digitalisation and technological innovation of the regional airport system of Apulia, Italy.
The activation of the 5G service - made possible by the record-time completion of the infrastructure delivered by Boldyn Networks - enables national mobile operators to provide ultra-fast and reliable mobile connectivity to passengers and airport operators. This represents a decisive step toward transforming Apulia’s airports into next-generation technology hubs, capable of delivering advanced digital services and enhancing the travel experience.
Thanks to 5G, travellers can now benefit from high-speed connectivity across all airport areas, facilitating the use of increasingly in-demand biometric and digital services. According to recent surveys by the International Air Transport Association (IATA)1, 75% of passengers prefer biometric identification solutions to speed up checks and reduce waiting times, while 78% see their smartphone as central to their airport travel experience.
In addition to improving the passenger experience, the new 5G network will ensure greater operational efficiency for airports through the integration of IoT and AI technologies, supported by low-latency connectivity. These solutions will enable safer and smarter management of air traffic, passenger flows, and baggage tracking. Furthermore, AI-based real-time monitoring will help detect cyber threats and strengthen the airports’ cybersecurity framework.
5G also represents a key ally on the path toward carbon neutrality: data-enabled operational efficiency can reduce emissions by up to 10% through the optimisation of energy consumption and internal processes.
“The activation of 5G at Apulia’s airports represents an important milestone for Boldyn Networks and for the region,” said Antonino Ruggiero, CEO of Boldyn Networks in Italy and Spain. “Thanks to this infrastructure, we are enabling a new generation of digital services, improving the efficiency, security, and sustainability of the airport system.”
As a leading foreign investor in the sector in Italy, Boldyn Networks continues to strengthen its commitment to the development of 5G infrastructure across the country, which is considered strategic for the Group. The company is already active in similar projects in other cities and sectors, with the goal of consolidating its leadership in telecommunications and accelerating the country’s digital transition.
Boldyn Networks has already deployed advanced connectivity infrastructure in major global urban and airport hubs such as London, New York, Hong Kong, and Seattle. In Italy, the company was also involved in delivering the 5G infrastructure in Rome for the Jubilee 2025, as well as in projects across hospitals and universities nationwide
